Of family Court viz-viz women and children's court in Bhutan

When asked about their personal opinion on setting up of women and children Court in Bhutan to the two judges, Cryan and Pamela who had experience of presiding over cases of family specially women and children over 20 years in UK, both strongly disagreed in favour
of such court. They reasoned that father is important as mother and child in any family and such steps could only create division in the family. They added that in such courts, father would always be seen a person with flaw while court will inevitably protect the rights of woman and children only. The purpose of court and justice should not be for division of family or breaks the family bonds instead courts and justice must bring broken family together, sort out their differences and make family bonds stronger at the end of the case unless inevitable. However, they both are in favour of Family Courts as it includes everyone in the family to reconcile and discuss their issues of difference.

I think , I tend to agree with these two renowned judges not as a man but as a member of the family. Family must exist as one irrespective of gender, age or any other status. It's the most complex mini society within the society where unwritten rules govern and regulate these social fabric.

Therefore, setting up of a family court would expedite their cases which means their bonds could be rejoined or rebuilt at the earlier stage which is a better option. Second, in the family cases, the litigants are neither criminal nor social menace in most cases, rather are due to difference in opinion and conduct which requires a lot of privacy while liberty to express their emotions. Therefore, family court would definitely have far reaching positive impacts on the families in dispute.

Hard decisions beyond the political mileage.

Gelephu Thromde Representatives seems to have taken very unpopular decision by rejecting the proposals for establishing more Karaoke and Night clubs in Gelephu and must have hurt the sentiments of so many those who love night life over others.

While it is important for Bhutanese society to move forward with the rest of the world, it is also important to weigh the merits and demerits permitting operation of so many such businesses. It may not be completely true that having such set ups would only bring social chaos as it is also one of the alternatives to prevent urban loneliness, pressure and blend with busy city life. It provides the avenue to share one’s emotions, meet friends and hang around and get rid of busy hectic city life. But it also is definitely a source of numerous social problems.

One of the drawbacks of having such more establishments in any part of the country is weak law enforcement and greed of those operating such business where money take over moral and ethical responsibilities. Personally, I have not come across any bouncer or any person asking the age of entering such places which is the most important measure any such business must put in place.

Of late, though I did not ask any age, but by appearance, I would say as young 12 or 13 years of school going aged kids having completely free access to such facilities which seems to happen only in Bhutan. I was shocked to encounter many such young kids literally some even getting drunk and loitering late nights as late 2:00AM in the morning. Even in so called most liberal countries like France, US, Japan, Korea or Australia etc, kids of this age won’t have access to such entertainment centers because these are designed for adult people and its negative consequences to kids are enormous ranging from access to numerous social evils including abuse drugs, alcohol, smoking, prostitution or even formation of gangs which are very much associated to such entertainment centers across the globe.Besides these evils, it also mounts pressure on our youth commit other crimes like robbery, theft, cheating, deceiving parents as money plays an important role while these kids earn nothing.

With current attitude of Bhutanese night life organizers, we should have first maintained a minimum number of such businesses so that our law enforcers can regulate them well. Second, there should be a strong regulations to prohibit entry of any children below the age of 18 to enter such facilities with an intention that these youth are our future and they must be protected from any social evils. Giving freedom to our kids does not mean, they are free to do and engage in everything they desire or wish but it is about being able to provide them right platforms to excel in their life, recognize their talents and passions, guide them to achieve their aspirations and make them understand the social evils.

Though the laws and regulations require that alcohol should be served only to a person of aged 18 and above or allow in night clubs, not a single owner or bouncer really takes care of such requirements as long as they get the money and their business runs smoothly. The human lives and future of our youth are least bothered or respected . Therefore, the decision to reject establishment of such entertainment centers is only a welcome news as it would minimize the accessibility which would ultimately discourage some of our youth and more so as it is located in the border areas where access to drugs is very high and vulnerable.

The elected members, whether politicians or local government, must take decisions in the interest of the general public specially our youth and not merely to fulfill their political promises if any decision undermines the positive impacts on our youth.
Having said so, I do in no way discourage or against the children's right to enjoyment and entertainment but we must unite to take our future citizens through more appropriate and better options in such era.

I am hope more similar unpopular yet a farsighted and visionary decisions to be taken by other elected members as well.

A late yet a fresh memory

In cloudy drizzling evening, I saw the young buzzing intellectual minds with smile on their faces, shaking hands and exchanging the greetings on this drizzling evening. For me, finally I managed to catch the flock which i have yawned since a long time but never could. It was a memorable evening and night worth sacrificing.
I  met Mr. Dorji Wangchuck, an
all rounder intellectual more often described a film maker and inspiror. I remember I met him number of times in the past but never got the opportunity to interact. Despite of my unwitting expression with loud noise and never ending talks, I observed he listened to my every word with patience and humility. I felt humble and learnt the art of listening skills and imagined later how he even managed to listen to for hours where my intellect is way below his ears and soul to digest.

I also breifly interacted with many who gathered there of whom many I never met but felt as if we have known for years. We talked with no hesitation and with lot of openness from personal stories to official talks. Mr. Karma Yonten,CEO of the Greener Way seems not less energentic and optimism to become a young, yet talented and successful Businessman filled with social values and ethics. His energy seems to at its peak and not detterred by numerous bosses and their calls often spiced with shouting and rude instructions when his Trash Truck breaks down and be late or unable to pick up the trash.
Mr. Tharchen, a long time friend of mine is also equally enthusiast as always with his big ambitions still at heart and hardword in actions makes me feel proud of being a Bhutanese. He remains humble as always yet with huge heart of success in life.
Never to forget, Mr. Passu, a well known Blogger who made headlines in Singapore a few years ago is no less passionate about what he is doing today. To the surprise of all of us, he introduced his newly established office, the HQ of Bhutan Toilet Org. He is a man of inspiration for many since he initiated the Bhutan Toilet program in the country. A man who turned a social worker from a humble teacher and now a Chief of the only organization that is for shit and shitty things and cleans the shit. We were mate since the junior high school days and I have only seen him progressing with more and more humbleness yet with passion to help the society.

Nawang Phuentsho, a Mr. who is no new to Bhutanese urbanites, a gifted writer and ofcourse a great organizer too. He ensures that we only look at the positives and success with unity in the action and diversity in our thoughts and creativity.
