Summer Vacation nearing to finish

It sounded bit long when the summer recess began a two weeks ago but now it looks quite short. It is almost done and we have done nothing worth for the break. Nevertheless, it was some sort of refreshing and help to gain some knowledge. I being just a few KM away from the Institute, had more privilege than others. I had frequent visit to the institute for browsing internet, writing some articles. But i was not alone, because there are others who are here with the same purpose like me. In nutshell, the break though seemed short, something worth remembering.

A Tragic news: Lost seven lives

July 27: In a tragic accident, seven boys have been washed away by a stream below the Chhukha Dam site early this morning. The incident occurred at around 4.30 am. All of them were students of Tshimalakha Secondary School. Five of them were studying in class eight. One was studying in the 6th standard and another in the 4th standard. A search team comprising of RBA, RBP and CHPC personnel, Dzongkhag staff, family members and the public are still looking for the bodies. There were eight boys all in all. The river was small when they crossed it earlier during the day. They saw that the water level was rising ominously when they were returning. One of the boys however managed to escape by swimming. Tshering Samden, the boy who managed to escape said he informed some of the parents by around 9 pm last night. The parents then immediately rushed to the site. The Chhukha Dzongda Tshewang Rinzin told BBS that despite all the efforts they could not rescue the children and had to helplessly watch as they were washed away. One of the parents said they could do nothing but watch as the children were washed away by the river. This morning, the Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley informed the parliament about the tragic incident. A special prayer ceremony was conducted for the victims at the Tashichhodzong today. The Moenlem was presided over by Lam Daw Gyeltshen and 270 monks of the Zhung Dratshang. The prayer ceremony was attended by Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley, cabinet ministers, the opposition leader, parliamentarians and other senior government officials. They offered Karmi Tongchoe for the victims. The Rain: Blessing to the farmers

I went home last week to see that all my kitchen garden with wilted vegetables. I asked my parents what happened? They said that they did not receive rain on time this monsoon and they are worried if the same situation continues for some more days. It is not only affecting the growth of vegetables in the garden but also the paddy which is the main source of income and staple food in my village. The Dzongkhag Dratshang took an initiative to recite Kanjur last Tuesday, so that rain will fall. It is tradition as well as believe that if no rain is received on time, reciting knajur will bring rain because of the blessings of the Bodhisattva. It is good that now the rain is slowly showering and making the farmers happy. Today's rain was quite strong and i am sure it must have made difference in the lives of the farmers across the country. Everyone must have heard or seen how farmers in the south are left without cultivating the paddy due to lack of rain. Now the question is, Why is it like this, why there is fluctuation of frequency of rainfall than in the past. The simple reason is that in spite of all the efforts and strong policy of the government, the global climate change is not leaving Bhutan, instead Bhutan is feeling the pinch of it.
