Challenges faced by the Bhutanese media:Evolution and survival

From just one radio station, one television station and one news papers just a couple of years ago, today there are 4 radio stations, four newspapers and one television. There is yet another news that another newspapers called Financial Times is expected to come very soon. Now the question is will all these media organization will thrive in such a small scale market like ours.? The already existing media agencies in the country are struggling to survive. Some have even has come to the verge of bankruptcy. For instance Bhutan Times has stopped its biweekly issue a few months ago, inserted the Dzongkha in the English issue to save them from getting loss due to the Dzongkha issues. Kuensel has started to go daily as an alternative means to survive and capture the market. Thus, in short, the survival of media in Bhutan is at stake, yet many more are propping with the optimism towards the future of such organization.
